Three e-books collectively comprising 69 full-colour drawings by South African artist, Wilde E. Figge. These publications depict the important role of the Nguni Cattle breed in the livelihood and traditions of the Nguni people of Southern Africa: the Zulu, Xhosa and Swazi. Each drawing is accompanied by a short poem unlocking its meaning and serves to introduce the reader to the particular breed of cattle in expressionistic style. Nguni cattle are unique in the sense that there are over sixty-three common colour combinations within the breed. The poems are even suitable for young readers; the drawings invited positive comment at a recent children’s book illustration workshop in Berlin. The author hopes to display these drawings at an exhibition in Berlin in 2005, subject to negotiations. She also hopes to stimulate awareness of the forthcoming world cup soccer event taking place in South Africa in 2010 by marketing the publications in Germany during the 2006 event. Some of the drawings include a soccer theme. The publications are available for purchase in PDF-format at a cost of R200 (about US$40) each. Contact Theresa for more information.
